Horsedrawn Sleigh Rides

Enjoy a rustic, open air 20-30 minute ride through the winter woods. Please dress for the weather. Rides will also be available during the holiday break, December 24 and December 26-January 1, January 18 (Martin Luther King Day) and Winter Break Week (February 15-19) First come, first served.

Please note: Rides will also be available on Sunday, March 7 and Saturday & Sunday, March 13 & 14. There will be no public sleigh rides on Saturday, March 6 due to the US National Snowshoe Championships.

Lights on the Lake Run

This 4 mile (approx.) run begins promptly at 11pm at the Griffin Visitor Center. Runners go to Willow Bay and back. No walkers please, lights will be turned off at midnight.

Cross Country Ski Basics

$10 per person

Cross Country skiing is great cardiovascular exercise and easy to learn. These clinics are for the first time skier looking to get in on the fun, or for new skiers looking for helpful hints. You must bring your own skis. Weather permitting.

Cross Country Ski Basics will also be offered on Saturdays, January 9, 30 & February 6 from 9-11am and on Wednesdays, January 13, 20, 27 & February 3 & 10 from 1:30-3:30pm.

Try Snowshoeing

This snowshoe clinic will include instructions and a short snowshoe hike. Folks with little or no snowshoe experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction. Registration is required beginning at 8am the day of the hike and space is limited. This program will be offered only when conditions are acceptable. Call Nature Center, 638-2519, on that day to register and check conditions.

Winter at the Zoo Photo Contest

Win great prizes and have wintry fun as you become a Central New York wildlife photographer. The Zoo will be accepting photo entries from children ages 5-12, teen ages 13-18 and adult ages 19+ amateur photographers taken January 2-31, 2010. Complete contest rules at the the Zoo's website below. Awards ceremony will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010.
